Bike friends - In case anyone would like to view or comment on the priorities for the Madison metropolitan area - larger than the City of Madison, smaller than Dane County, and also corresponds to the boundaries of the new Regional Transit Authority - please see the forwarded notice below.
The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is "wish list" from all the municipalities in the area, as well as the County and State for the next five years. Not everything in the TIP will get built, but the TIP represents the priorities and plans for the area, so it is worth looking at. The Transportation Planning Board - the Madison Area MPO - then has to decide which projects will receive federal funds. Each project funded will be funded at 50% of the project cost, and then the local authority (city, village, or county) must provide the other 50%. State projects are included as an FYI, but are not analyzed for federal funded, because they will be paid for by WisDOT. Some projects in the TIP will also be funded 100% with local funds. In my experience on the MPO Board, Madison is the local authority most likely to take on full funding. (Lots of things to say about that, but that's another post.) The schedule for public input is as follows: Public Information meeting (Generally just a chance to see the maps, ask questions of staff, and DOT, etc. Very few people show up, so if you want information about the process or a specific project, you will have lots of opportunity.) Wed, Aug 18, 4:30 PM, Dane County Hwy Dept, 2302 Fish Hatchery Rd Public Hearing at MPO - this is where the MPO Board will take public testimony get their questions answered. Wed, Sept. 1, 7:00 PM, Madison Water Utlity, 119 E Olin Ave. Action Anticipated by MPO Board - Board will vote on the TIP Wed, Oct. 6, 7:00 PM, Madison Water Utlity, 119 E Olin Ave See forwarded message below for a link to the full TIP and supporting documents.
