The Badger trail remains closed between Lovell Ln (intersection with the
Southwest Path) and Purcell Rd. The guys and gals out there are working hard to
get it open.

It'd be a great help if people would stay off of the closed trail. As inviting
as it may look, it remains closed for a reason - safety. Safety of trail users
and safety of the contractors performing the work. One of the many cyclists out
on the trail today blew by a guy operating a Bobcat. The machine operator was
sweeping the trail, to make sure that the asphalt set up cleanly, and was
immersed in a cloud of dust. He could have decided to adjust the position of
the Bobcat at that moment and run the machine into the cyclist. It really shook
up the guy, who was just out there trying to do his job. That's just one
example of why it's important to stay off the trail while it is closed. When
workers have to constantly be on the lookout for errant cyclists (and runners),
they're not working as efficiently as they could either.

I know this trail has been a long time coming...and it will be a little while
longer still. I'm thinking of the event on Saturday as sort of a "soft opening"
as there will still be work to be done come Monday (i.e. the trail will likely
close again next Monday after the weekend).

Please be patient a while longer so the trail can be finished up. Then, it's
all yours (ours)!
