A dozen of us met yesterday at the Mason Lounge to discuss the formation of a
Madison Bike Winter group. We had a great discussion over a few beers & all
agreed it's a good idea & that we should get started planning events for 2010!
Here's some of what was discussed:

-Great Dane to Great Dane ride
-Santa Cycle Rampage
-Winter Fashion Show (high-tech gear vs budget or low-tech gear), possibly a
fashion show in reverse (i.e. start w/base layers)
-Invite Chicago Bike Winter member(s) up to Madison to present some ideas,
successes, challenges, etc.
-Winter Bike-To-Work (BTW) Day - Sometime in Jan?
-Using the City's "snow emergency" declaration as a sign to ride (i.e. ride
when
it snows)
-Tap into other fun cycling groups & winter events
-Clothing exchange?
-Educational events - how to bike in winter, how to make studded tires, proper
gear, etc.
-Create a winter bike map
-Use current free media to advertise & get the word out
-Possibly get sponsorship(s) to help encourage people to participate

As you can see, we discussed a lot & had some very knowledgeable winter
commuters present to help plan & think of ideas. Our next event will be
basically to pick up where we left off & continue a discussion, hopefully
solidifying some of the ideas above.

Let's plan to meet again on Wed, 11/17, at the Mason, say 5:30 pm. Hope to see
you then!

P.S. Find us on Facebook!

The idea is very simple—with the proper gear and a little determination, you
can
continue to enjoy bicycling year round. Add in the camaraderie of a bunch of
riders and exciting events and you've got Bike Winter!
