This was sent out by India awhile back, but I wanted to send it again. Yesterday I talked to Jacob, the grad student below, about Madison and what is right or wrong with what we are doing. He would like to interview more people, so please contact him if you are willing.
Although he is specifically looking at the Bicycle Friendly Communities program, and how Madison is doing, you don't necessarily have to be all that familiar with that program, I assume. He said email as probably the best way to reach him. I think he'll be in town until Monday (maybe later), so ignore the part below about being here only through tomorrow. He is staying on the near east side. He seems flexible about where and when to meet people. Robbie Webber -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Contact Form. I’m conducting research on ways in which communities implement initiatives and policies to become more ‘bike friendly.’ Specifically, I’m interested in the League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly Communities framework, how it is being used, and how it affects perceptions of bike friendliness. This research will focus on six communities in the Midwest that are certified in the Bicycle Friendly Communities program, including Madison. I will be interviewing people that may have insights into the certification process or its effects, and I’d like to invite you to participate in my study. Interviews will be no longer than one hour (and may be much shorter), and will generally cover your perceptions of the bicycling atmosphere in Madison, as well as your perceptions of bike policy and planning. I will be visiting Madison on a bike trip, and will be in town from Wednesday, June 15th to Saturday, June 18th. I could conduct the interview any time in these four days, at any location that’s convenient for you. I hope to use the data collected from this research to evaluate the effectiveness and comprehensiveness of the Bicycle Friendly Communities program in promoting bike friendliness, as well as to write my master’s thesis in Geography. I’ll be happy to send you a copy of my final report if you’re interested. Please contact me to let me know when you may be available for an interview. Also feel free to forward this message to others who may be interested as well. Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.
