My 12-year old granddaughter is resisting wearing a helmet - and given where
she rides (about 3 miles on a country road to get into town here), she needs
it! Her mom and dad tell her she has to wear one; my wife and I insist on
it; but she's at the age where she's on her own quite a bit. And for this
girl, "cool" is everything; she just about has a coronary if one of her
beautiful long blonde hairs gets out of place!

She took the bicycle safety course a few years ago. She's smart. From what
I've seen, she is obeys the laws and is careful and alert while riding. But
I worry about the helmet thing. Any advice? Sometimes I wish we could take
her to a physician who has dealt with head wounds on bicyclists who weren't
wearing a helmet - show her x-rays, talk about brain injuries, etc. Put
some fear in her!
