Jay, et al - A few years back, Chuck Strawser and I participated in the making of a video for Transit Mutual, the company that insures all transit services in Wisconsin except Milwaukee. The video was for both bicyclists and transit operators (drivers and management) on how to coexist on the road safely and peacefully.
As far as I know, the video still exists, and is available free from Transit Mutual. Last year I ran into Edith Merilla - former Bike Fed Board President and Transit Mutual staff - and she said to just ask, if anyone wants a copy. For what it's worth, I generally think Madison Metro drivers are pretty good, but as with all groups, there are always a few individuals that are not up to snuff. Whether it's a bad day, an attitude towards bicyclists (or anyone), or just not paying attention, we have probably all had encounters that don't reflect well on Metro. And in my opinion, any driver should slow way down when passing another vehicle (like a bike) on the right, and especially if one is driving a very large vehicle, and passing a very small vehicle. Passing on the right, on a street that is not multi-lane, is allowable if it can be done safely. Not slowing down doesn't seem all that safe to me.
