The Globe and Mail is indeed a newspaper with national distribution-- one of two-- but it's not equivalent to the New York Times in stature, as evidenced by the fact that they even have a fluff section like this, which is astoundingly bad. (True that the Times has the Style section, but that's the site of notably superb writing.) I had to dump my G&M subscription couple years back due in large part to their virulent anti-biking bias. This is a newspaper for BMW-driving Toronto establishment types, branding to the contrary notwithstanding.
Not only is a trailer a great and safe way to transport a child, it's a great and safe way to transport an adult, in the sense that I've found that when I pull one drivers grant me a much more reasonable road share. Nobody wants to kill a kid, but many do seem to get a kick out of harrassing a 50-something white guy. I stopped unhooking mine after dropping of my kid once I realized this.
