The only police report:
http://www.cityofmadison.com/incidentreports/incidentDetail.cfm?id=12388

It says the mugging was on Arbor Drive near Gilmore, which is just east of
Glenway, as the e-mail said. There is a wide sidewalk/bikepath there that runs
along Monroe Street.

Still a terrible event, but it's not on the Southwest Path.

Subject: [Bikies] Another assault on the SW Bike Path

Dear Bikies,

I received the following message this morning regarding an assault this weekend
on the SW bike path.  This was sent out over a neighbhorhood email list in
Nakoma.  I apologize for not having any more details, but thought it was of
general interest to this group as well (particularly as it appears to be the
second assault on the path in a week).

Regards,

Sean

 A neighbor was
assaulted on the bike path approx. 100 yds. east of Glenway Blvd. It was about
7:15pm and he was out for an evening walk alone when he was struck from
behind. He was knocked unconscious and his wallet and a watch were taken. The
assault weapon may have been a pipe from the appearance of the blow to the
head.

After the news of the latest assault on the bike path near Verona Road, I
recall someone suggesting they clear the tall brush on the sides of the bike
path going south from Verona Road.  I went through there today and the brush
has been cleared well wide of the path, and in these dry conditions should stay
clear.
