Hi, I'm a former Madisonian living in the northeast of Brazil. To give you an idea of what basic concepts of urban mobility are around here imagine setting back the Madison clock to about 1960. Yep! We have a long way to go.
I have been working with a number of different people and groups and FINALLY today I got a call to make a presentation to the city council. A council-person called me and said, "I hear that you come from a place where they respect bicyclists and there is some form of a plan about urban mobility." Actually, what I keep saying to people here is that they live in a PARADISE for biking (the temperature ranges from 16ºC-34ºC or 61ºF-93ºF). Yeah! No ice! (OK, I know that there are some of you that really LIKE ice!!!) I hate public speaking BUT I really love living in places where urban mobility is considered - Forward Madison as a subset of Forward Wisconsin (I know it is a threatened concept these days) - and I really would like to show this similarly-sized city what they could possibly do. I'd like to bring the Madison bike situation to the city council of Campina Grande, Paraiba - Brazil. If anybody has already-prepared Powerpoint presentations I would [maybe] like to borrow them (or parts of them) to make a 15 minute presentation. There's a great opportunity to build some connections here. And do keep in mind for your biking desires that winter there is summer here. If anybody can offer a hand I would be very appreciative. https://picasaweb.google.com/mberigan/Brazil_bikes Matthew (Mateus) Berigan *- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - * Campina Grande, Paraiba 083-8769-6669 (cell) mandar torpedo http://oitorpedoweb.oi.com.br 608-237-1596 (VOIP EUA) [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 7°13'8.09"S, 35°53'2.47"W
