I have been riding out to Madison College/MATC for since last week and the
detour is still in effect. I would suggest that riders ignore the sign that
tells them cross three lanes of East Washington traffic to turn onto Wright and
instead take the tunnel by Gardner Bakery. I would also argue that while the
resurfacing is nice, it seems odd timing given that Madison College/MATC bike
commuter and pedestrian traffic increases with the advent of the fall semester.

The letter in this morning's WSJ about the cyclist on the sidewalk was, on some
level absurd. Certainly the cyclist ought not have ridden on the sidewalk, yet
on my ride to MATC/Madison College I saw 4 cars run stop signs, uncountable
number exceed the posted speed limits, three cars roll through red lights to
make right hand turns, and  one motorist who decided that the most sensible way
to turn left from Randall onto University was to run me off the road. I had to
pound on the side of the car to keep from being run over. And yet rarely, if
ever, do we read of the wanton criminality of motorists.

The double standard of calling out cyclists because of the behavior of a few
amongst us while remaining silent on the everyday law breaking of motorists is
really beneath contempt.

the human race.”
—H. G. Wells, 1904
