As some of you may know, there is a very large development planned for
the vacant area southwest of University Avenue and Whitney way. The
developers are calling this project 'University Crossing'.
Just this week they released their traffic study.
The traffic study predicts 7000 motor vehicle trips per day. But as
one of my neighbors pointed out, this number is pretty much a fantasy.
From the study:
"The combination of these factors and the City of Madison?s stated
goals of increased use of alternative modes of transportation indicate
that a 10% to 20% reduction for multi-modal uses is reasonable and
these reductions were agreed upon with the City of Madison staff."
Is there any site in this city that gets even 10% of its trips via
bus/bike/ped?
The total predicted trips, before factoring in the 'multi-modal
discount', is 9,500 trips.
Ugh.
