This position will advocate and advance bicycle and pedestrian mobility, safety and education within the city. This position will work with limited supervision and with the goal of making Salt Lake City one of the most bicycle and pedestrian-friendly cities in the country. Advocates and helps implement the City's Complete Streets Ordinance, Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan and the Downtown Transportation Master Plan in regards to bicycle and pedestrian improvements and programs. Coordinates and implements a variety of educational programs, projects and events to increase bicycling and walking and to promote bicycle and pedestrian safety. Coordinates with Salt Lake City Police Department to facilitate the complementary enforcement of bicycle and pedestrian safety-related laws. Works with other City staff to implement and manage small to medium scale bicycle capital improvement projects involving either provision of bicycle parking or development of new segments of Salt Lake City's bikeway network. Assists in staffing citizen bicycle or pedestrian advisory committees. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in city, regional or urban planning or a related field. * Must have knowledge of the following areas: * Basic principles and practices of program and project management and planning. * Basic principles of public outreach and involvement. * Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) mapping programs. *Must have the ability to: * Coordinate program activities with multiple stakeholders to ensure agreement and consensus. * Apply sound, creative problem solving techniques to resolve difficult program issues and problems. * Understand, interpret and respond to internal and external customer needs and expectations. * Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with difficult and sensitive people, issues and situations. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following: * Transportation planning or transportation engineering. * Conducting meetings and public speaking. * Organizing and managing team efforts that involve multiple skills and perspectives. * Working with geographic information system (GIS) mapping programs, including map making and data editing. * Planning and engineering bicycle and pedestrian facilities. * Using a bicycle for transportation.
