The less safe drivers feel, the more effort they put into driving safely.  Just 
think how much driver behavior would improve if bicycles were made of dynamite!

More scientific evidence, this time from the Florida DOT, that looking like a 
competent bicyclist, and being male, encourages m'ists to take greater risks in 
their interactions with you in traffic. I personally plan to glue a wig to my 
helmet and start dressing in drag. It makes me feel so... ah, nevermind.
