Dear Alders,

Unfortunately I cannot make it in person to the public meeting at Edgewood
tomorrow (Dec 12) regarding the proposal to add lighting to the Southwest
Path.
I live on the east side of Madison (District 6), but find myself enjoying
use of the Southwest Commuter Path when I am crossing town.
I am strongly in favor of implementing lighting along the Southwest Path,
from the Beltline to Breese Terrace, for increased safety and year-round
path useability.
It is my understanding that the lighting will be designed so that it will
illuminate the path and path edges, while limiting stray light into the
surrounding areas.

In addition to lighting the path, I think that all path users in Madison
should be apprised of their responsibility (via signage, PSAs, leaflets,
etc.) to be properly illuminated/visible at all times while using the
paths, especially when general visibility is compromised (*i.e.* under any
conditions that would necessitate a car having its headlights on).

Feel free to forward this email to any other appropriate people or to
contact me in the future regarding this issue.

Thank you for your consideration.
