A note, and warning from the Village Administrator in Shorewood Hills. (See
message below)

As an aside (for the less experienced bicyclist): Making any sort of turn
while your tires - especially your front tire - are/is on a painted
surface, wet leaves, railroad tracks, or other possibly slippery surface
(mud/snow/ice) is a recipe for disaster. Always cross these surfaces
upright, and at as much of a 90 degree angle as possible.

Road lane markings and crosswalks are good in general, but the paint can be
a serious hazard. The treatments suggested below can help, but cation is
the best policy.

Hi,****

We have been made aware that the crosswalk paint in the area of the bike
path at ****Shorewood Boulevard**** and Locust is slick when wet. I checked
it and it is. There is nothing we can really do about this until the
weather warms up and then we will use a type of paint or adhesive which is
gritty throughout. We have also made contact with the company that makes
the green stuff ****Madison**** is using. In this case right now it is
epoxy and the glass beads wore off. ****

Maybe it is worth letting cyclists know through a list serve or website you
may have, that when making that corner tires may slip.****
