2012 Wisconsin Bike Summit Tuesday, February 21 Inn on the Park, Best Western, Downtown Madison
http://www.bfw.org/events/wisconsin-bike-summit/ PRE-REGISTRATION CLOSES IN 1 WEEK - FRI. FEB. 17!! It's time once again for our annual *Wisconsin Bike Summit!*<http://www.bfw.org/events/wisconsin-bike-summit/> *I hope I can count on your participation in 2012.* With the deeply concerning political activity on the federal level,* it's never been so important that you attend the Wisconsin Bike Summit to show your support for bicycling. * Last week the House Transportation Committee released a draft bill that eliminated nearly all federal bicycle funding. Because 100% of the money the state of Wisconsin spends on bicycle improvements are federal dollars, *Wisconsin would be left with ZERO funds*for new bike paths, bridges, and planning should this bill pass. We can't let the incredible bicycling momentum our cycling community has generated in Wisconsin subside! *Now, more than ever, we need a consistent and reliable state-dedicated fund for bicycling projects in Wisconsin.* We can no longer rely solely on federal support. Please attend the 2012 Bike Summit and Lobby Day and ask your state legislators to support bicycling. For our friends who are* public employees and unable to lobby, there are plenty of other fantastic reasons to attend* the 2012 Wisconsin Bike Summit. Check out these new education opportunities at this year's Summit! - *Morning networking sessions:* We're working with our partners to provide four unique Breakfast Sessions tailored for smaller group discussions. Attendees will have the opportunity to network, learn, and share ideas in this more personal, less formal setting. Session topics include *mountain biking vision discussion, new Pedal Ped Network introduction, tourism operators social, and a Trek Dealers session*. - *Special Bicycle Facilities Session Track:* Bike Fed has recruited the Midwest's top bicycle infrastructure design experts to lead a series of three sessions focused on sharing *best practices from basic bicycle facilities to some of the world's most innovative bike infrastructure*. This is a great session track for planners, engineers, county highway commissioners, and other public or private employees interested in all levels of bicycle facility design. The Bike Fed is pleased to announce* our special guest speakers *for the 2012 Wisconsin Bike Summit! <http://www.bfw.org/events/wisconsin-bike-summit/> * * *Opening Remarks, Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Mark <http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/about/structure/secretary.htm>**Gottlieb <http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/about/structure/secretary.htm>- *Secretary Gottlieb will kick-off this year's Summit. He'll share WISDOT's vision for bicycling in Wisconsin and how bicycling fits into WISDOT's overall transportation network. *Closing Session, Steve Clark, Twin Cities' Transit for Livable Communities<http://www.tlcminnesota.org/walkingandbicycling.html>- *From **bike sharing to bicycle boulevards to cycle tracks, our neighbor to the north is quickly building the bicycle into it's everyday culture. Steve will tell the inspiring story** of how, in just a few short years, Minneapolis has grown to become one of the best bicycling cities in the US. *Special Recognition of Congressman Petri's Support - *Wisconsin's own Congressman Tom Petri <http://petri.house.gov/> will join us as we honor him for his years of dedication to Safe Routes to School and making Wisconsin a better place to bicycle. Recently, Congressman Petri once again demonstrated his strong support of cycling when he introduced an amendment to restore bicycling funds in the federal Transportation Bill despite incredible pressure to support the cut to our funds. We hugely thank Congressman Petri for his heroic attempt to save federal bicycling funds. You can read more about the amendment here<http://www.bfw.org/2012/02/02/petri-amendment-fails/> . * * *REGISTER NOW *for the 2012 Wisconsin Bike Summit<http://bfw.org/events/wisconsin-bike-summit/>! It's *highly important* that you *pre-register for the Summit.* This simple action makes pesky details like lunch counts and Lobby Day meeting scheduling SO MUCH EASIER! Don't miss out on the 4th Annual Wisconsin Bike Summit & Lobby Day - *the* *most important bicycling event of the year!* * * * * * * *PRE-REGISTRATION CLOSES FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17. REGISTER NOW!* * * *http://www.bfw.org/events/wisconsin-bike-summit/ * * * I look forward to seeing you at the 2012 Wisconsin Bike Summit on February 21!
