SW Path unplowed as of 9 a.m., but the many riders who came through earlier have created usable singletracks going each way. I was impressed how many people were riding in 4 inches of unplowed snow. I saw four others there when I reached the path. Five years ago when we moved to the near west side, I didn't see nearly as many tracks in the snow, or riders. I only rode on the section west of the Monroe/Regent intersection; don't know about the Missing Link part.

As of 4:30 am, we have close to 3 1/2" of snow on the ground. The worst portion of the storm appears to be over. Our newest forecast is calling for maybe another 1/2" or so throughout the rest of the morning. With the pavement temperature above freezing, the snow that does fall for the rest of the morning should be light and hopefully will melt as it falls on the main streets. We will begin plowing all residential streets in the City at 7am today. We want to get the snow off the pavement on the residential streets as soon as possible so that there will be less ice formed from traffic driving on the untreated residential streets and compacting the snow into ice. We hope to have all residential streets plowed by 5 pm tonight. We will not declare a Snow Emergency as a result of this storm. We feel that the warmer temperatures forecasted will negate the need to declare a Snow Emergency for the next two nights. Remember that this snow is heavy and wet with a lot of moisture in it. There will be "snow boulders" rolling off the plows and there will be quite a bit of wet and heavy snow at the bottom of all of our driveways to shovel. Please use caution when you shovel today as this snow is full of water and very heavy. _____________________________________ To be removed from further mailings from this list: Unsubscribe To manage your Email Lists subscriptions, go to My City of Madison Account.
