Mark Evans, thanks for the recommendation regarding pants. Does the
Columbia ROC come with a reinforced or wear-resistant crotch?

For a number of years I wore Carhartt painter's pants and they held up
really well. Kind of ugly but I didn't care. I think they were a 9-1/2 oz
duck fabric - not as heavy as most of Carhartt's work gear. But they
discontinued them.

Recently I began biking in Wrangler RIGGS Ripstop Ranger Pants. They look
nicer than the painter's pants, fit OK (provided I pull up the legs before
tucking into socks), and the fabric seems really tough. But the crotch is
wearing thru already, even though I haven't used them that much. I did ride
a few times when they were sopping wet and maybe that's harder on the
fabric.

The RIGGS weren't cheap so I'm thinking about taking them to some repair
shop to have the crotch reinforced with a tougher fabric. Suggestions
anyone?
