The Republicans don't support legislation helping kids get to school by bike
either. Somebody cited a propaganda video they put out against that program a
few days ago.
They really don't support any form of pro-bike legislation. They want roads,
roads, roads. I don't know what you think the Bike Fed can do about that.

Subject: Re: [Bikies] Wisconsin Drops to #6 Best State for Bicycling

Too bad the Bike fed ignored my advice to focus their lobbying efforts on
things Republicans were more likely to support. Conservatives don’t give a
damn if bicycling makes people healthier, or adds to the economy. They see
most bicyclists as arrogant pricks looking for a handout who should just grow
up and get a car. Talk radio is bursting with stories of pricks who flip off
drivers when the driver complains to the bicyclist that they failed to stop for
a stop sign. Talk radio listener’s top priority is to force bicyclists to pay
for the bike paths that are built in the state. Talk radio’s listener’s first
thought when they hear about a bicycling project is “oh, they want to force me
out of my car”. On the other hand, there is much more support from
conservatives for programs that help children bicycle to school. Based on the
BFW’s message to legislators last year, I really have to question the value
anyone would get in giving money to the bike fed this year . That $35 would be
better spent on the more bike-friendly candidate in the governor’s recall
election. From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]

Subject: Wisconsin Drops to #6 Best State for Bicycling Wisconsin drops from
#3 to #6in Bicycle Friendly State ranking
The staff at the Wisconsin Bike Fed is disappointed, but not surprised by the
Bicycle Friendly State rankings released just this morning from the League of
American Bicyclists. Wisconsin has dropped from the third best state for
bicycling to the sixth. This drop is after a fall in 2011 from the #2 spot to
#3. So, why the continued drop? A significant lack in state bicycling funding
was cited as the biggest reason. Read our blog post to learn more about the
ranking and reasons behind it. The staff at the Bike Fed is committed to
continuing to make our state one of the best in the country for bicycling, but
we can't do it without you! Please consider a $35 donation today to help us
protect your bicycling rights and to build an even more bicycle-friendly
Wisconsin. Through member dues and donations, we are able to fund our work with
Wiusconsin's political leaders to increase bicycling funding and pass critical
legislation like a Vulnerable Users' law. Only together, will we make Wisconsin
#1! This email was sent to [email protected] by [email protected]
