Hi! I'm a former Madisonian that now lives in Brazil and has not been back since early 2009. My partner has never been to the states and has never experienced a city that has any notion of using bikes as a means for mobility.
I'd like to be able to easily tour her around (she has little biking experience). I know that there are drawbacks to tandems but this is a temporary thing. I'd like to get access to an upright tandem (no low handlebars) for a couple of weeks during our month (Aug) there. Budget has a rental tandem but it is pricey. If I knew I could bring one back (to Brazil) with me I'd buy something used (multispeed but otherwise very simple). Looking for your suggestions!!
