The work on the path appeared to start yesterday.  The detour is indeed around
the north side of one of the FPL's buildings.  Take care as you finish crossing
Highland going east so you can make the sharp left on to the sidewalk and again
as you prepare to rejoin the bikepath where they have left a piece of grass/mud
to cross.

Subject: [Bikies] Campus Drive Bike Path detour east of Highland Ave

An underground water leak along the Campus Drive Bike Path just east of
Highland Ave has left one of the Forest Product Lab buildings without Fire
Protection, so excavation to repair it will begin asap. Forest Products Lab
intends to route bicycle and pedestrian traffic through their property (which
is mostly paved parking lot) around the section of the bike path that will have
to be blocked for the excavation, as there really is nowhere else to go from
there (unless you want to go north on Highland over the hill to Observatory and
down to Walnut St to get back on the Campus Dr Path, which I’m guessing no one
will want to do).

I don’t know when the excavation will begin or how long it will last. This is
an unplanned, unscheduled remedy to an emergency situation.
Please exercise caution in the area.
