Bicyclist hit by semitrailer identified, listed in fair condition

Fitchburg police have released the name of the bicyclist who suffered
life-threatening injuries in a crash Tuesday involving a semitrailer.
Derek S. Preston, 23, of Madison suffered incapacitating injuries in the crash
at the intersection of Verona Road and Williamsburg Way, police said.
Preston was in fair condition Friday at UW Hospital, hospital officials said.
The driver of the semitrailer, Matthew G. Linsmeyer of Mayville, was not
injured.
Police were investigating whether Linsmeyer had gone through a yellow or red
light when he struck Preston, who was crossing Verona Road.
Preston, who was wearing a helmet, suffered life-threatening head injuries,
police said
