So I'm sure that won't go anywhere, but here's another spin I attempted:

To the WSJ Editors:

Great news, the Obama Administration just finalized breakthrough standards
for new cars, SUVs and pick-up trucks that will raise their fuel efficiency
to 54.5 miles per gallon, on average, by 2025. Sadly, it is not enough.

Although the new standards will save consumers money, reduce U.S. dependence
on oil ,cut oil imports, and reduce air pollution, there is still much to be
done.

As Bill McKibben recently pointed out (Rolling Stone magazine
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/global-warmings-terrifying-new-mat
h-20120719) the problem is that our current policies will put more carbon
into the atmosphere than the Earth can handle. We're on a trajectory past 2
degrees C global warming because our fossil fuel investments demand it. It
is just built into the current system.

So it's going to take a lot more than just better gas mileage. Fundamental
change is needed. So much is at stake it is hard to know where to go next.
One great idea is legislation to put a price on carbon (the Save our Climate
Act, to be precise http://citizensclimatelobby.org/SOCA)?
