City to push for more foot traffic in the core

Canada’s Automotive Capital is entertaining what some suggest would have
been unthinkable heresy just a few years ago — closing downtown Windsor
streets and turning them into pedestrian-friendly public spaces.

“Absolutely, I think the time has come,” Mayor Eddie Francis told reporters
Monday night following an ideas-filled strategic planning session of city
council. He said foot traffic, rather than vehicle traffic, would represent
“a more creative use of the public space” in the downtown....
