PATH is a bike and pedestrian advocacy non-profit 501(c)(3) serving Hawaii
Island. It’s
mission is to safely connect the people and places of Hawaii Island with
trails, pathways
and bikeways. PATH pursues this mission through a three part strategy
focusing on
Education, Encouragement and Policy Advocacy.  PATH’s signature education
programs include the Bike Ed bicycle safety program for 4th graders as well
as
professional development seminars on bicycling and pedestrian planning and
design.
Encouragement events include the PATH Run, which is the first official
event on the
Ironman World Championship and many others.  PATH’s policy advocacy focuses
on
accelerating the planning and design of pathways and bikeways on Hawaii
Island and

Position Description:

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for implementing PATH’s mission.
This
includes but is not limited to fund-raising, developing and managing
membership
campaigns and educational programs, policies, services and coordinating
legislative
efforts and community events. The ED will establish and maintain productive
relationships with partners, the media, and the public. The ED will be
supervised by the
PATH Board of Directors (BOD).

Core Responsibilities:
- Build and engage membership; individual and corporate
- Primary responsibility for fundraising, including grant writing, major
donors, and
contracts for program implementation.
- Work closely with the PATH BOD, committee heads, and staff.
- Facilitate and schedule regular board meetings.
- Plan PATH Annual Meeting
- Develop and manage volunteer opportunities.
- Develop, foster members to provide input and advocate for bike/ped
facilities,
programs and funding
- Work with allied organizations and corporate sponsors.
- Develop a productive working relationship with federal, state and local
government
leaders.
- Educate and influence elected officials, legislators and agencies to
foster legislation
and programs that further the goals of PATH and state and local bike/ped
efforts.
- Coordinate legislative agenda and actions that promote PATH’s mission.
- Primary responsibility for Program Development.
o Bike/Ped Education programs.
o Safe Routes to School (SRTS) facilitation.
o Meet regularly with program and volunteer coordinators to monitor
progress,
strategize and solve problems.
o Troubleshoot program and administrative problems.
- Develop and administer the PATH budget, providing frequent updates to the
BOD.
- Hire, train, direct and evaluate staff as the organization grows.
- Maintenance of the PATH website, monthly e-newsletter and other
correspondence.
- Other duties as assigned by the BOD.

Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree preferred, or an equivalent
combination of
education and work experience.
- A minimum of 3-5 years work experience in non-profit or public sector,
ideally in
bike/ped advocacy
- Proven project management and event experience.
- Track record of raising funds from a diverse range of funding sources
including private
foundations, non-profit services, membership, government contracts,
individual
donations and fund-raising events or projects.
- Experience recruiting and engaging volunteers.
- Experience effectively communicating with the press.
- Experience with public sector related policies and procedures.
- Experience with budgeting and finance.
- Knowledge and understanding of current bike/ped issues.
- Proven track record building and maintaining strong relationships with
potential
organization partners and government agencies.
- Professional judgment, discretion, maturity.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Very good computer skills and the ability to serve as or direct a
webmaster.
- Experience with project scoping, invoicing and contracts is a plus.
- Experience managing, supervising, hiring and training staff, as well as
managing
consultants and volunteers.
- Available for night and weekend meetings and events and travel around the
Island and
state and to some annual events and training out-of-state.
- Certification as League Cycling Instructor preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:
The organization pays a competitive salary commensurate with experience,
anticipated
to be in the range to be $50,000 to $80,000 annually. Health care and paid
vacation
benefits are also provided.
