=v= Interesting, but I wonder whether it's sturdy enough.
Bike-powered generation was created for Occupy Wall Street
and related encampments. Occupy San Francisco used one
that was built from a commercial folding track stand/trainer
but the New Yorkers actually built a much more solid stand
to handle people of all shapes and sizes who wanted to
pedal the bikes.
=v= In these cases they were charging batteries (and, more
recently, ultracapacitors) for the camps' electrical needs
but had watts to spare for people's phones.
=v= When Hurricane Sandy hit, TIME'S UP! used one of the
Occupy Wall Street generator bikes to pump water out of a
basement, and charge phones for neighborhood folks. Then
they did some bike delivery caravans out to the Rockaways
and also set up generator bikes for the hardest-hit folks!
=v= For just charging up phones under normal, non-hurricane
conditions, I think a Biologic ReeCharge dyanmo hub system
makes more sense overall.
