The problem that closed N Park St between Langdon and Observatory is taking
longer to fix than anticipated.
Consequently that area is still closed. There IS pedestrian access through
the area, but it is along the west side of Park St next to Science Hall (so
if you bike westbound up Langdon St, you will have to carry your bike up
several steps to access the pedestrian sidewalk that is still open).

I also discovered yesterday on my way home that Langdon St between Parking
Lot 1 and Lake St has been returned to two-way travel for motor vehicles
(presumably to facilitate access to Lot 1 and the loading docks for Memorial
Union, Red Gym, Pyle Center, and Below Alumni Center).
Unfortunately, the sign noting that the eastbound contraflow lane ends at Lot
1 keeps getting moved from the center line of the road into the path of an
eastbound bicyclists transitioning from the EB contraflow bike lane to the EB
Motor vehicle lane. This is an extremely hazardous situation for everyone
(including pedestrians trying to cross Langdon St).

Please exercise caution when traveling through the area, or, if possible,
avoid the area altogether.

During construction today an underground pipe was damaged and North Park
Street will be closed completely between Langdon Street and Observatory
Drive. We anticipate that North Park Street will reopen to both directions of
traffic by Monday, April 1, 2013.

Obviously, this will affect cyclists and pedestrians trying to access the
Lakeshore Path from Langdon and/or Park St, so until the problem is fixed and
the road reopened you would be advised to use University Ave or some other
route.
