I teach one or two of these classes each year, and would urge anyone
working with kids - that includes up to high school, I'd say - to attend
one of theses classes. If you are a parent, scout leader, after-school or
summer program leader, help with bike rodeos, volunteer with a group
concerned with child safety, help with youth bike rides, or otherwise want
to help kids be safer and better bicyclists, this is a great class.

Even if you are already a fantastic adult bicyclist that can ride anywhere
or under any conditions, this class will help you understand how kids see
traffic and when they are ready to learn certain skills. I learned a lot
about cognitive and physical development by taking and teaching the class
over the years.

It's free (unless you have to travel to another city), and people have
actually come from other states to participate, so we are lucky to have
this opportunity so close by.

Every year someone asks me when the classes are going to be, usually the
week after the last one of the season. Please pass this notice on to others
in your social or professional networks that might be interested.

WisDOT is hosting Teaching Safe Bicycling courses. These are one-day
trainings in a Train the Trainer-style workshop. We need participants for
these upcoming training courses or courses will be cancelled – which will
be a great loss. So, please encourage your staff, community leaders, and
citizens to attend one of these *free* upcoming sessions.

This is an excellent course that focuses on:
• Understanding the Child Bicyclist
• How Bicycle Crashes Happen
• Hands-on Demonstration: Teaching Bike Safety to Children
• Bicycle Ride: Community's Accommodations and Hazard Identification
• Working Together Locally for Successful Bike Safety Programs
