The owls weep... or not, as I noted a few months ago that wildlife researchers
have recorded more owl feeding activity at low light levels at late dusk and
early dawn that at full dark. While I fully appreciate the dismay of those who
lament another lighted space in our already flaming torch of a city, public
safety has to take the front seat in this corridor. The adjacent Glenway and
Odana golf course wooded areas will likely always provide great space for
nighttime wildlife viewing.

The owls weep...

Hmm, this may be shutting the barn door after the horse has left, but seeing
the pedestals on a recent SWP trek gave me a thought. As a reach-out to the
dark-sky folks, could these be lights be rigged with motion sensors up and down
the path, so they go on as users approach, and go off behind them? Wonder how
expensive such a system might be. Could they be so retro-fitted? Just a
thought.....

I was heading out the Southwest Path for the first time in a while Wednesday

controversy over the lights to my visiting sister-in-law when I encountered
Madison City Engineering trucks installing them. They had been installed that
very day!
I'm looking forward to a safer evening commute this winter.
