Maybe one reason why Danes are so happy is because their expectations are rather modest (Kierkegaard). Perhaps they also view themselves as sources of happiness rather than consumers of it. Maybe their happiness inspired them to build and pay for and regularly occupy bicycling infrastructure - after all, it is much easier to share our happiness when we have not isolated ourselves from one-another inside motorized suits of armor.
What if Danish bicycling is an expression of happiness rather than a cause of it? In any case I urge caution when it comes to inferring cause from correlation. Meanwhile I much prefer that we describe ourselves as cause in life rather than effect. If such a thing as free will is possible, it will manifest itself among people who live as though we already have it. Hans Noeldner Viral Narratives Mfg. Co. Oregon, WI 608-444-6190 [email protected]
