Yes, I was referring to the incident cited above. While I agree with the need to raise responsibility and consequence for MV operators who cause harm to vulnerable users, I think that learning from the incidents and making changes to prevent issues in the future is probably even more important.
There is a dangerous section between the terminus of the Starkweather Creek Path at Packers/Aberg ramps to where the bike lanes start/end on Aberg (I think Huxley?) It is an absolute nightmare to navigate this section and forces cyclists to use the sidewalk (which I believe was a factor in this incident) or to go onto Aberg where it's converting from a limited access highway of 45mph (55mph actual). You also have high speed traffic coming off Packers at multiple crossings and the Oscar Meyer plant enter/exit right here with a lot of MV and bike traffic. My wife has a heart attack whenever we roll through this section with the boys. Not only is it one of the most dangerous places to navigate on a bike, but it remains one of the only ways to get in and out of the Northside. The new bike lanes on N. Sherman creates an alternative for some routes, but this is still a major connection to the rest of the city an also to the commercial area off of Shopko Dr. It's embarrassing and frustrating that this tragic incident hasn't spurred action to resolve this issue.
