I was in Montreal QC recently and was a little alarmed to observe that
average cyclist behaviour there involves riding much closer to parked
vehicles than I see in other jurisdictions, including Vancouver BC. I was
inclined to think that it was due to greater enforcement and education
there, but I see that the fine for dooring a cyclist in QC is only $30
(~$27US). Not sure what the fine is in BC (where a cyclist failing to wear
a helmet faces up to a $100 fine).

OAN, I cycled past a nice "share the road" sign on Vancouver Island near
Sooke last week. The sign had a number of panels showing the different
stuff drivers should share the road with- pedestrians, various wildlife,
farm equipment. Notably missing was a picture of a bicycle, which left me
feeling a little... vulnerable. Drivers were well-behaved, though.
