Bikies (with Bike Fed Daves cc'd) -

I have served on the State Trails Council
<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/stc/>--a board advisory to the DNR, with
members representing different user groups--for a number of years. I
represented touring and road bicyclists. In this case, you can take that to
mean people that use the rail-trails and connecting roads as opposed to
mountain bike trails.

Last year I did not get reappointed to the position, but I continue to
serve until a new person is appointed.

Several very well-qualified people have applied, but none as been
acceptable to the appointing authority, that would be the Governor.

If you would like to be on this board, or know someone who would like to
help shape trail policy (and some funding), please apply.

There are four meetings per year: two teleconferences lasting about 2 hours
each, one meeting in Madison, and one in-person meeting somewhere around
the state. The in-person meetings are about five hours midday. (We used to
have two meetings in other areas of the state, and may go back to that
meeting. We'll see. It's mostly a budget issue to pay for travel and
overnight lodging for members of the Council and DNR staff.)

The application, current agenda, and other information about the State
Trails Council can be found here: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/stc/

The next meeting is in Oshkosh on July 31. If you want to attend, or know
someone that might be interested, the public is not only welcome, but also
urged to attend. You can speak on an agenda item, or simply bring up a
concern. That's one of the reasons we have meetings around the state.

Let me know if you have any questions.
