So I answered the call and greeted many folks at the door as they checked in, visited with many more as I went around starting the bidding on quite a few silent auction items, and helped clean up and pack everything away until near the bitter end. Was surprised to find it was 11:30 before I left, no idea how much later for other organizers!
People kept asking how many attended. I have to also wait for the final number, but it was elbow to elbow the entire evening. I was able to kinda listen in to the live auction as I worked and was delighted to hear numbers in the thousands of dollars for the Bike Fed. I’ll be listening out for the final number for auctions, as well as the grand total, also. I made myself an unofficial taste-tester and quality-control checker of food and beverage, and it all passed muster easily. J In fact, I ended up finding my way back to at least one serving area a second time. Seriously, everyone seemed to take great delight in the temptations all around the museum. I didn’t manage to find my way to the rooftop until we were cleaning up, and regretted not finding my way up there earlier. It’s a pretty special spot. Of all the silent auction items that I got started with an opening bid, with fingers crossed that someone would outbid me, I ended up “winning” one item… a dusty rose folding trail-a-bike donated by Saris… which I don’t need, and so would like to make available again to someone who can use it and would like to reimburse me. You can see it at http://budgetbicyclectr.com/adam-s-trail-a-bike-original-folder-dusty-rose.html Feel free to email for more info. In general, major kudos to all the folks that are involved in organizing… I certainly found out how much effort goes into running it, I can’t imagine how much it takes to plan it, and glad I don’t have to sort out all the boxes that we packed up nor tally up the lists and make sense of all the financial components that will generate that final number. Finally, I delighted in seeing that many people took the imaginative red-carpet theme to heart and dressed for the occasion, and in general, all of the attendees that were so incredibly generous in support of the Bike Federation. Thank you to everyone that participated in creating a truly special evening for the biking community.
