I have a short survey <http://goo.gl/forms/sKz3zaOJ24> that would help me
know how useful a tool fitness tracking apps are for gathering biking
transportation data.

If you bike for transportation but don't use an app, you can still take the
survey, and your response will still be very helpful.

We don't have good information about what routes people take when riding
for transportation, where they are coming from and going to, or other
important data to evaluate our bicycle transportation system and where gaps
might be.

During the Pro Walk/Pro Bike/Pro Place meeting in September, people again
suggested that I use Strava <http://www.strava.com/> data for tracking how
much and where people ride for transportation. I was presenting on
performance measures for biking and walking, and I did a short survey in
the room as to how many people were using Strava when they rode for
errands, commuting, social activities, etc. I won't tell you what my
30-second, approx 50-person survey revealed, because I'd like to get a
larger sample first.

So, I would very much appreciate it if the readers of this list would take
my survey. It's only a couple of questions, and then you can send
additional comments, if you want.

(By the way, I realize that some people just don't like the idea of some
app or private company tracking their movements. On the other hand, others
aren't bothered by that issue. I don't want to start a discussion on
privacy here, I'm just trying to figure out whether the data produced by
these apps is any good.)

Thanks very much in advance for your help.
