Eric Sundquist had trouble posting this, so he asked me to pass it on. Background: US DOT Sec Anthony Foxx issued a challenge to mayors to improve on biking and walking in their cities.
I think Madison and surrounding localities do pretty well on the US DOT's list, but there's room for improvement. For example, on No. 3 we have limited bike data and really no walking data from counts, and our last household survey is a decade and a half out of date. Since we have mayoral elections coming up, this would be a good time for candidates to answer the challenge. My challenge to mayors: Are you ready to boost bike-ped safety? <http://www.dot.gov/fastlane/ready-to-boost-bike-ped-safety?fb_action_ids=10153003249454035&fb_action_types=og.likes> http://www.dot.gov/fastlane/ready-to-boost-bike-ped-safety?fb_action_ids=10153003249454035&fb_action_types=og.likes Robbie Webber Transportation Policy Analyst 608-263-9984 (o) 608-225-0002 (c) [email protected] All opinions expressed are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer or any other group with which I am affiliated.
