Having taken one of those rides, I can tell you that I was not seriously hurt, and I was definitely concerned about my bike getting trashed or stolen before I got back. Accidents don't always happen in front of a bike rack. On the other hand, I doubt they're going to delay transport for a serious injury while they load your mangled bike on the rack.
