That's a bit more high tech than the devices I've seen some folks use, which 
basically amounted to a 3-foot stick mounted sideways on the back rack.   Some 
would put imaginative objects at the pointy end, like an open Sharpie.
Anybody thinking about doing this should make the protruding stick either very 
flexible or breakaway.  

I, of course, do not recommend, endorse, or excuse any such assertive actions.
