Earlier in the year, I sent around a request for people to take a survey on law-breaking by bicyclists and motorists and attitudes of same. It was being done by an acquaintance of mine <http://wesmars.wix.com/wesleymarshall#!active-transport/c87m> at the University of Colorado at Denver. The request for responses got quite good national coverage. For instance, here's a Washington Post <http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/01/09/lets-talk-seriously-about-why-cyclists-break-traffic-laws/> article.
Last night, WISCTV (the local CBS affiliate) had a lengthy segment <http://www.channel3000.com/news/survey-looks-at-why-drivers-bicyclists-break-traffic-laws/34065550> on the study with interview with the researcher as well as local interviews. It's well worth viewing. One of the best parts is when he says that he originally hoped to get 1000 responses to his survey, but to date as received *18,000* responses. Many came from Wisconsin, and within that many from Madison. So congratulations are in order for helping some serious research. He thinks he might be able to do some specific analysis of Madison's responses because of the high level of participation. Since he is still analyzing the survey results, he has no big conclusions other than, "Everyone breaks the law, regardless of how you travel." No surprise there.
