Wed next week - total shut down overnight between Frances and Park. Traffic rerouted to Dayton.
Also, various lane closures throughout the week, including for pedestrians and bicyclists. Note that the bridge is being removed because, in addition to deteriorating, it isn't being used much. This just goes to show that people aren't going to go up, over, and down again if straight across is easier. If you want to go from the 2nd floor of Humanities to the 2nd floor of Vilas, it works. But to cross the street? Nope. http://host.madison.com/news/local/education/university/uw-madison-demolishing-bridge-over-university-avenue-closures-to-come/article_215e0c26-a748-5849-85c7-e5b8c9c82eb5.html UW-Madison will start work next week to demolish the pedestrian bridge that connects Vilas Hall and the Humanities Building over University Avenue. The demolition work will cause lane closures on the busy stretch of University Avenue near Park Street, and force crews to entirely close the street for one night. University officials say the bridge is being taken down because it is deteriorating and is no longer used as much as it was in the past. Demolition will start on Aug. 10 and is expected to take a week, depending on weather. Three blocks of University Avenue between Park and Frances streets will be closed entirely from 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, until 6 the next morning. Traffic will be rerouted around the closure via Dayton Street. There will also be "multiple lane closures throughout the week," according to the university, and detours for pedestrians and bicyclists.
