We have had a discussion on this list multiple times over the last 10-12
years that usually involved some variation on this:

"What is the deal with stop signs on the path? Aren't we supposed to be
able to use the crosswalk just like a pedestrian, and shouldn't drivers
yield to bicyclists in the crosswalk just like they are supposed to yield
to pedestrians?"

That very question appears to have played a part in the decision of the
Dane County DA to not file charges against the driver who hit and killed
the young woman crossing Raymond Rd on the Ice Age Junction path.
