They say "...driverless cars don't solve the problem" but of course that understates the problem by a large margin. The expectation is that driverless cars will worsen the space problem by making it more palatable for folks to lengthen their commutes. McMansion time again.
As for Uber, I don't think there was ever a claim that it would help solve any problem except enhancing convenience (and enriching the founders).
