For those who may not have been keeping up with their Facebook or blog
reading, former Bike Fed board member and all-around great bike advocate
Kierstin Kloeckner got run off the road on Century Blvd in Middleton
yesterday.

No one stopped to help her, and there are no bike facilities on the road in
that location. It is one of the worst safe-biking gaps in the Madison metro
area -- a very busy road with no parallel options.

Kierstin is healing, with no broken bones or concussion, but she is going
to be off her bike for awhile. And I'm going to hazard a guess that her
excellent overall health and quick reflexes saved her from worse injuries.
it could have been much, much worse.

To highlight the problems on this road and show Kierstin our support as she
heals, there will be a short ride on Monday -- only about three miles -- on
this very bad road.

Otherwise, here's the plan:

This ride's purpose would be to show how poor the East/West connectors are
in Middleton for both adults and children since many do not feel safe
commuting to work or school. Ideally, it would be great if someone could
film a couple trouble sections to have proof on how close cars come to
cyclists (while going over the speed limit). Please let me know if you
would be interested in helping with this. Please also share this with
others!

Let's plan on meeting in the Parking lot of Harbor Wellness Center (2711
Allen Blvd, Middleton, Wisconsin 53562) at 5:45-6pm Monday, October 10th.
We will ride onto Allen Blvd and head East on Century. We will turn around
at Q, ride back on Century to Branch St and come back down University to
Allen. The entire route is about 3 miles. I will contact the Isthmus on
this.
