There is precedence for this; wasn't it just earlier this year? Some
reconstruction work on the path, and they used the right lane. This
time, I suggest it be officially named the Tim Wong memorial "John
Yes-Lane" Detour.

What a bummer.
While the nature of this latest closure may be surprising, another
closure certainly isn't. How many times has it been closed already?
How many more times in the next several months before everything's
back to normal?
I'm disappointed that city staff has been so reluctant to consider
putting the jersey barriers up on the 3rd lane of John Nolen to create
a usable and sustainable detour for this busiest segment of bike path
in Madison. The impact on drivers and passengers of motor vehicles
would be very low and it would make the world of difference to path users.
I'm glad the sandbags and pumps have worked as well as they have, but
our bike network is too thin and fragile to accommodate these frequent
and unpredictable closures on a route that has no good alternative for
most riders. Even if mother nature treats us perfectly and the lakes
continue to go down over the next 3 months, there's still all the work
in pulling out the sandbags and cleaning up. The pavement is badly
damaged and the large cracks should probably get patched before winter
or maybe there will be work needed on the shoreline? How many times
will the path need to be closed for all of that? How much nicer would
it be for city staff and contractors that have to be down there
working to not have to fight with path users trying to sort there way
through the mess?
Put up the detour already and pull it down when everything's finally
cleared up.

*Subject:* [Bike Madison Updates] Flooding Updates: Capital
City Trail CLOSED at Monona Terrace
Bike Madison Updates
The Capital City Trail is *closed* between Broom St and Blair
St where it passes the Monona Terrace.
The City was using eight pumps to remove water from the trail.
Seven of these pumps were stolen overnight, resulting in 8" of
water on the trail. We are currently working to replace the pumps.
