Moleskin works very well but of course it's not very reusable. I used it to
protect my cheeks at the cheekbones and nose during the Noquemanon XC ski
race last weekend in the UP; -13 at the start, and it worked fine.
Dermatone is also good for exposed skin but won't protect anywhere near as
well as moleskin. Athletic tape is another alternative. There's also a
product called Frost Tape, comes from Sweden and is designed for this
purpose but I haven't used it and don't know who would carry it locally.
And yes to goggles or sunglasses--someone up at the race  froze their
cornea.
