I have a question I’d never thought I would need to ask, but: after a recent
attempted theft of my bike I am now attempting to register my bike with the
city. I’ve had my bike since 1984, and at this point cannot find or discern any
serial number, nor can various third party bike repair people I’ve shown it to.
I’ve talked directly to the folks at the treasurers and have been told,
naturally, that I need to have a serial number to register (no clear guidance
on alternatives for applying a number to the frame).
I still can’t believe anyone would ever want to steal my bike (it was locked,
and in a “secure” enclosed garage, surrounded by other much newer bikes as
well- this is the first time I’ve ever even considered it might be at risk, and
that includes time living in DC and SF).
Any suggestions much appreciated (other than getting a new bike, as it is the
best bike in the universe and therefore irreplaceable)
Thanks,
Jack
