A reminder that the annual Pick-Me-Up @ The Border ride to Illinois
is set for 7 pm tomorrow (Friday, 13 September). Sponsored by Bike
Fitchburg, the ride will start at the Wyndham Garden Hotel adjacent to
the Capital City Trail bike bridge, with 80, 50 and 25 mile options.
Live music and food will precede the event starting at 5:30 pm in the
Wyndham parking lot. No fee, but a $15 donation is suggested. Full
details are available on the Bike Fitchburg Facebook page. While you
are on the page you can also check out what Bike Fitchburg has been
doing to advocate for improved cycling conditions on routes that radiate
south, north, east and west from the bicycle round-a-bout. Latest
example is the recent paving with shoulders of Whalen Road, which was a
priority of the non-profit organization. Currently the organization is
leading an effort to make Fish Hatchery Road between the Beltline and
McKee Road bicycle friendly as that segment soon undergoes major
reconstruction.
