I believe that's because mozilla marks it internally, or in a special
header, and when you move an email from one folder to another, I believe
it markes the existing one as deleted and makes a new one in the other
folder.  At least that's how i've observed evolution operating, and it
wouldn't surprise me if mozilla did the same.
