Hi, Roland.

First, you need to upgrade, because 1.2.4 and 1.2.5 were bad releases.
1.2.6, 1.2.7final and 1.2.8final are all stable. I recommend the latest
version. It's safe to just compile the new server and copy the binaries
(bincimap-up and bincimapd) over the old ones.

Then, try to catch the crash (it is a crash) with gdb, by attaching to
bincimapd before the FETCH command is submitted, or by tracing the
bincimapd process with strace. You'll find a link to ProtocolDumping on
the http://www.lifewithbincimap.org/ site that will help you provide some
more info.
