This is a repost of an archived message as i am having the same problems
and just wondered if anyone came up with a solution. As setting
squirrel mail to US-ASCII is not recommended and does not seem to solve
things.

This excerpt is from the squirrel mail configure script

This option controls what character set is used when sending
mail and when sending HTML to the browser. Do not set this
to US-ASCII, use ISO-8859-1 instead. For cyrillic, it is best
to use KOI8-R, since this implementation is faster than most
of the alternatives

Hello again,
I've gotten everything switched over from courier to binc, and only one
problem left to resolve. I use the 'filters' plugin for squirrelmail, but
if I enable it now that Binc is in place, I get the following error:
Query: SEARCH CHARSET ISO-8859-1 UNSEEN From {34}
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Reason Given: SEARCH failed: [BADCHARSET ("US-ASCII")]
Is there anything I can do to fix this? I can change the code to use a
different command if necessary.

Binc in the 1.2 branch only supports searching with the US-ASCII charset. If you can get squirrelmail to use this charset, it will work.

I also noticed that the SORT command doesn't work - is this functionality
currently planned?

Yes, for 1.3.
